Role Description
The Firmware Staff Engineer will be a key member of the Electrical Engineering team that provides significant depth and breadth of technical leadership while collaborating with Engineering management and technical staff to drive organizational objectives. The incumbent will aslo be a recognized internal expert with significant and proven experience in developing and applying technical expertise to new and existing product designs as well as to resolving complex issues. They will support all phases of design projects that include: assimilating novel and unique ideas, reviewing, analyzing, troubleshooting and evaluating alternative technical solutions. The Staff Engineer is expected to exercise sound technical judgment and clearly communicate the approach to relevant stakeholders in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. They will be the subject matter expert (SME) and a knowledge leader in electrical design and development of FPGA programming, in order to provide technical leadership to new and legacy Wescam projects or programs.
Tasks to be Accomplished
Provide technical expertise in FPGA technology in areas of key importance to L3-Wescam
Provide technical leadership and guidance to the Firmware team to develop new systems, concepts or technologies
Participate in all technical and project review meetings within Electrical Engineering (FPGA) to identify and address cross-team obstacles
Work with the CTO and the engineering team to determine the feasibility of implementing new ideas and technology to feed the Innovation pipeline.
Provide input into and review of all product specifications within Electrical Engineering (FPGA)
Stay current with industry trends and technology in areas that impact WESCAM to influence senior leadershipto accept new practices, approaches and concepts.
Promotes the culture, values and mission of L3Harris Wescam internally and externally.
Skills Required
Detailed knowledge of the WESCAM product line and applications
Expert knowledge of modern Electrical Engineering FPGA design practices
Specification and design of complex FPGA systems
Verification of complex FPGA systems
Good understanding of the requirements and practices to support a DO-254 or equivalent development standard.
Intellectual property control and management systems, proven track record for developing FPGA IP in an Agile environment
Product life-cycle management
MIL/Aerospace/Design standards applicable to the WESCAM product line
A recognized expert in Electrical Engineering FPGA
Business acumen, including cross-functional leadership knowledge
Experience & Education Requirements
Requires mastery level knowledge in XILINX FPGA development
Viewed as an expert and/or resource within the field by peers in and outside the organization. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience, or
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience, or
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
