L3Harris Specialist, Environment, Health & Safety in Montreal, Canada

About your next Challenge as a Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist :

MAPPS is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist based in Montreal, QC to support operations in the Montreal, QC and Ottawa, ON location. The incumbent will have comprehensive knowledge of environmental, health, safety and sustainability programs, experience setting up and managing EHS programs in industrial and engineering settings.

The EHS Specialist will be responsible for implementing, and maintaining the policies, programs, and procedures within the MAPPS EHS management system, and will ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, local and customer EHS requirements.

The role will also serve as a subject matter expert in occupational safety and health, environmental, and sustainability matters for MAPPS. The EHS Specialist must serve as a change agent and demonstrate the ability to guide operations leaders in implementing EHS programs, building a zero injury culture, and minimizing impact on the environment.

What will you do:

  • Participate actively with the organization’s leadership to establish policies and directions to achieve the targets and objectives within the EHS program;

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company environment, health and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, provincial and local environmental health and safety regulations;

  • Work with stakeholders in the organization during space planning, building expansions and/or other changes in facilities or work areas to ensure EHS requirements and regulations are met;

  • Remain current with all applicable regulations and company policies, and advise leadership in EHS-related programmatic change recommendations or requirements;

  • Focus on continuous improvement of EHS programs in processes, systems, and products;

  • Conduct workplace surveys, safety audits and assessments. Advise management of conditions requiring corrective action;

  • Provide/support EHS briefings and training sessions as appropriate to fulfill regulatory requirements and foster a safe working environment;

  • Conduct/review job hazard assessments to identify and mitigate hazards in the workplace;

  • Lead the EHS committee and engage all employees to take ownership of EHS;

  • Support sustainability project identification and execution;

  • Support and guide accident investigations to determine thorough root cause and produce and maintain necessary documentation and permits;

  • Establish and maintain necessary contacts with site, municipal, provincial, federal regulatory agencies;

  • Work is performed in multiple locations and environments to include offices, laboratories, assembly areas, testing areas, shipping/receiving/inventory areas and employee support at customer locations;

  • Perform other duties, as assigned;

  • Flexible to support off-shift or weekend activities and response measures, when needed, and able to travel if required.

    Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;

  • 5+ years of experience working in a related capacity or an equivalent combination of education and related experience;

  • Strong technical understanding of occupational health and safety, and environmental regulations and practices;

  • Organizational skills, and cross-group work experience;

  • Requires both business knowledge and technical understanding in EH&S area;

  • Capability to guide teams without a formal management role;

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively;

  • Ability to communicate with people at different levels of the organization, including communication with people at the sector/segment/corporate level;

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Strong presentation skills;

  • Good knowledge of MS suite, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the Government of Canada’s reliability status and Level 2 (secret) security clearance;

  • EHS-related professional accreditations (ASP, CSP or similar);

  • Strong root cause analysis skills;

  • Experience using and leveraging EHS common tools and systems, such as Gensuite;

  • Exhibit sound judgment and professionalism in all situations;

  • Fully bilingual, French and English.

    Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO SECRET security clearance.
