Schedule: 4/10's Monday- Thursday (2nd Shift; typically 3:30pm-2:00am)

Job Description:

Provide support for Aerojet Rocketdyne Stennis Space Center 2nd shift for assembly and test of the RS-25 large liquid propellant engine program and facility environmental, health and safety programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with management, employees, and customers in applying occupational health, facility safety, system safety, ergonomics, and environmental disciplines. Activities are performed in accordance with organization and program standards and procedures.

  • Full knowledge of implementing and managing an Environmental, Health and Safety Management System and physical and health hazard programs associated with the workplace, work practices or equipment.

  • Performs health and safety evaluations, investigations and methodologies for continual improvement and prevention of employee injuries/illnesses and hardware/process problems throughout the site.

  • Plans, develops, directs, and assesses programs to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, with emphasis on facility safety programs, system safety programs, industrial hygiene, safety and health training, and associated monitoring.

  • Evaluates the impact of emerging issues and regulations on company operations, conducts problem investigation and coordinates resolutions, evaluates engineering design, and performs safety analyses, ensuring appropriate selection of control measures and hazard mitigation.

  • Evaluates existing or emergent risk management control technologies and provides information, regulatory interpretation, and technical expertise to management and employees.

  • Works regularly with regulatory agencies, other Aerojet Rocketdyne sites and external occupational safety professionals. Requires frequent/daily interface with the NASA-SSC and NASA-MSFC Safety and Mission Assurance Offices and support contractor S&MA focals.

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and industrial hygiene discipline and methodologies.

    Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 6 years of related experience, MA/MS degree with 4 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and 10 years of experience.

  • US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Additionally, individual must be able to obtain and maintain NASA Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) security clearance.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written & oral) skills with an ability to resolve conflict, work with internal & external customers.

  • Excellent communication skills when working with internal and external customers.

  • Initiative and ability to perform work assignments with minimal direction in a team environment. Flexibility, adaptability, problem solving and analytical skills are essential in this role.

  • Full understanding of OSHA General Industry Safety and Health and Construction standards required.

  • Ability to analyze, develop and implement risk mitigation and corrective action/management plans.

  • Must be willing and able to travel approximately 10%.

  • Ability to analyze and develop corrective action plans.

  • Flexibility and ability to work 2nd shift and other shifts as needed.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Computer skills, MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Understanding of environmental/sustainability and industrial hygiene management and monitoring.

  • Knowledge and experience working in an OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Certified site

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential is preferred.

  • Understanding of ISO 14001 standards & audit capabilities.
