Your role:

Airweapons Technician-Instructor (AWS) - Cold Lake is a job performed in both the maintenance hangar and flight line environments supporting the RCAF. Your primary responsibility is to verify compliance with aircraft weapons loading procedures. The main tasks include maintenance, and preparation of aircraft equipment for standards training, monitoring and assessing personnel doing load crew training, and verification of compliance with air weapons loading procedures. This job requires a comprehensive knowledge of aircraft weapon systems, safe loading/unloading procedures, and of 1st line servicing/flight line procedures.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Instruct, monitor and assess personnel air weapons load crew training and tasks in accordance with Technical Orders and Airworthiness publications;

  • Instruct, monitor and assess personnel air weapons break out and assembly (BOA) training;

  • Instruct, monitor and assess personnel doing ordnance related courses;

  • Control and direct the development and training of all load crew personnel;

  • Uphold and promote Explosive Safety and Air Weapons safety programs and policies;

  • Liaise with external agencies on work related matters;

  • Establish work priorities;

  • Provide oral and written feedback and provide advice on weapon system related issues;

  • Review and recommend amendments to quality processes;

  • Maintain, handle and store explosive cartridges and air ordnance

  • Incorporate aircraft modifications and Special Inspections (SI) for armament systems and sub systems;

  • May be required to design, install, evaluate and make recommendations on aircraft projects, prototype modifications and related publications;

  • Provide assistance and advice to, Aerospace Engineering Officers, Life Cycle Material Managers and other civilian contractors;

  • Inform DND Supervisors of load training progression;

  • Represent the Load Standards Section at staff meetings and working groups;

  • Possess the ability to function both independently and in a team environment;

  • Provide feedback on loading performance of trainees and recommend qualification to load air ordnance; and,

  • Develop students and junior instructors by providing them with realistic expectations and acknowledging their accomplishments.

    Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Diploma of college studies in avionics or equivalent experience;

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position;

  • Endorsement on CF-18 mandatory;

  • Extensive experience of the CF-18 aircraft required;

  • Communication skills in both languages English and French, oral and written;

  • Good communicator and strong training skills;

  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.

    Eligibility Criteria :

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance;

  • For on-site positions, our location not accessible by public transport, car/carpooling required
